A qualifying event in the official New Zealand Chess Federation National Interschool Championship.

Organised by Howick Pakuranga Chess Club & Papatoetoe Chess Club.


Format

A 6 round Swiss tournament, involving teams of four.

Eligibility

Central Auckland schools are invited to enter teams of four players plus one optional reserve.

Schools can enter as many teams as they wish, but players must stay in the same team throughout.

Teams from the same school may be paired against each other.

Schedule

  • 9:30 Round 1
  • 10:15 Round 2
  • 11:00 Round 3
  • 11:45 Round 4
  • after round 4 Lunch-break
  • 12:45 Round 5
  • 1:30 Round 6
  • after round 6 Prize-giving

Team Composition

Players must be ranked in order of known strength e.g. NZCF Rapid rating, NZCF Standard rating, or teacher estimates.

Players must stay in the same order during the event. Reserves can only play on board four.

Time Control

15 Minutes each, no increment.

Scoring System

Match points, with game points used to break ties if necessary.

Prizes

Players in the top three teams will receive Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.
The top player on each board receives a certificate.

The winning team qualifies to represent their region at the NZ Interschool Finals. If 20 or more teams compete, the runner-up also qualifies for the National Finals. If 30 or more, the top 3 teams qualify (but each school can only have one qualifying team).

Entry fee

$75 per team.

Please fill in the correct form for the Central Auckland Interschool Region at interschools.labwebdev.com (qr code) or Email completed entries (including team lists, as below) to: nzchess.winnie@gmail.com by Tuesday 06 August 2024.

Please register early so that we can prepare tables and chess equipment to cater for the number of teams, and give your school time to arrange payment. You do not need to know your player order or date of births at the time of registration. You may enter TBA on the form fields, the registration system will send you a link to your entry so you can update your player information up until the night before the tournament.

If necessary, we reserve the right to close registration or restrict team numbers before close of registration if we feel the venue is reaching capacity.
