A qualifying event in the official New Zealand Chess Federation National Interschool Championship.Organised by Howick Pakuranga Chess Club.
Format
A 6 round Swiss tournament, involving teams of four.
Eligibility
East Auckland schools are invited to enter teams of four players plus one optional reserve.
Schools can enter as many teams as they wish, but players must stay in the same team throughout.
Teams from the same school may be paired against each other.

- 10:15 Round 2
- 11:00 Round 3
- 11:45 Round 4
- after round 4 Lunch-break
- 12:45 Round 5
- 1:30 Round 6
- after round 6 Prize-giving
Team Composition
Players must be ranked in order of known strength e.g. NZCF Rapid rating, NZCF Standard rating, or teacher estimates.
Players must stay in the same order during the event. Reserves can only play on board four.
Team Limit
No more then 5 teams per school accepted.
Time Control
15 Minutes each, no increment.
Scoring System
Match points, with game points used to break ties if necessary.
Prizes
Players in the top three teams will receive Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.
The top player on each board receives a certificate.
The winning team qualifies to represent their region at the NZ Interschool Finals. If 20 or more teams compete, the runner-up also qualifies for the National Finals. If 30 or more, the top 3 teams qualify (but each school can only have one qualifying team).
Entry fee
$60 per team.

Maximum number of teams is 5 teams per school. You can place teams on a wait list by email.
Please register early or get in touch to reserve space for your school’s team(s) as we can only accommodate a max. of 57 teams.

Register by Fri 30 May 2025 so that we can set up enough tables, sets and clocks for registered teams.
A unique link to your registration will be emailed to you so that you can re-visit your form to update player names and positions until the night before the tournament.
